The retail board game of Gwent is unbalanced by design. Sources, community and team opinions, and a full set of house rules for factions, cards and deck building.
House rules for the retail board game of Gwent (No Loading Games, 2025), born from the card game inside The Witcher 3 and unbalanced out of the box. Version 05, February 2026, seven pages, in Italian. Nilfgaard, Scoia’tael and Monsters are rebalanced, while Northern Realms and Skellige stay almost as they are, so as not to set off a chain of fixes. Spies, medics and cows are toned down, Scorch becomes mandatory and small units gain a bodyguard ability. Deck building gets a strength cap of 130 and two separate piles, elite and troops, drawn apart, and the mulligan changes between rounds. The last page lists the doubts still to test at the table.
The rules are built on the official ones and on the opinions of players and of the publisher’s team.
